FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How many teams will be taking part?
A: There are 52 teams taking part on 12 pitches, we believe after last year this is now “the largest Walking Rugby Festival in the World”.

Q: Who can play?
A: The festival is fully inclusive, but we also want it to try, as much as possible, to remain in line with the origins of walking rugby, aimed at providing an opportunity for players aged 50+ to continue their involvement in the game.  Therefore, we would ask that you try to ensure that the majority of your squad is over this age. The game is targeted at older players.

Q: Will any of the Lions rugby matches be shown at the club?

A: Yes we hope to have the Lions match in Adelaide on from 11:00,  with tea, coffee and bacon butties available in the clubhouse.  We will do all we can to show any other nations game on the day as well.

Q: What time is the club open on Sunday to collect our cars?
A: The car park will be open from 09:00am, if you would like to collect your car earlier could you advise us soonest, so they can arrange it.

Q: Do we have to provide a referee?
A: Each team would be asked to provide at least one referee, where possible.
Q: Will we be playing scrums?
A: Yes, for this year we are going to have two rounds with scrums being play; each team will play one game.  A scrum will be played for forward passes or ball forward to ground only.

Players in the scrum must remain in the scrum and the offending team’s scrum half must remain behind the scrum until the referee calls “Scrum Over”..

The scrum will consist of the three closest players to the offence: two making up the scrum and the third will be the scrum half.  The scrum shall be uncontested, i.e. no pushing by either team and no striking for the ball by the defending team. The ‘players’ should then loosely touch, but not grip, their opponent’s shoulders.

Each team shall have a ‘scrum-half’. The defending scrum-half must stay directly behind their two players in the scrum. The other scrum-half puts the ball into the scrum.

The scrum-half puts/rolls the ball in and the middle player of their team must hook/play the ball with their feet back between their legs.

The scrum ends when the attacking scrum-half plays the ball away from the scrum.

At a scrum:

2. The offending team’s offside line will be three metres back from the rearmost foot of their scrum.

Players in the scrum must remain in the scrum and the offending team’s scrum half must remain behind the scrum until the referee calls “Scrum Over”.

Q: Will scores be kept.
A: No, tries scored will be recorded by the referee, the referee will give points for fair play and sportsmanship to each team and pass the card to the pitch managers who will pass to the control tent for recording.
Q: When is the bar open?
A: The club bar will be open from 11:00; we will also run an additional bar outside..

A: The Rules for the Festival are on the website and can be downloaded from the following link (Walking Rugby Guidelines). A decision has yet to be made on whether scrums will be played.
Q: When are the presentations?
A: Awards will be presented as soon as possible after all games have been completed.
Q: Is there any entertainment on after the Walking Rugby has finished?
A: Yes, we have a band who will be playing from completion of the presentations to about 10:00pm.

Remember the idea of Walking Rugby is to have fun and enjoy the game, please remember that good sportsmanship can be maintained within competitive games. If you have any questions please ask.
